The Frida Festival is entering its 21th year and originated in the East End of Houston, TX. Our 2018 – 2025 festivals had over 30,000 attendees and were held in various locations including the Hardy & Nance Studios, Navigation Esplanade and Discovery Green.
This year the celebration will be at MECA.

The first 100 people who attend the festival will receive a goodie bag that includes one free ticket to the MFAH Frida exhibit.
The celebration continues the next day. On Sunday, March 29, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will host a Family Day connected to the exhibition. We will be leading a free flower crown-making activity, and there will also be a Frida look-alike contest.

Student Scholarship
In honor of the legacy of Frida Kahlo, we are excited to support enthusiastic young artists through our first round of Frida Festival Student Art Scholarships.
Open to high school seniors graduating in 2026.
Selected artworks will be exhibited at the Frida Festival at MECA – Dow Campus on March 28.

All work must be original creations of the artist submitting the application. No reproductions of original work by other artists or Frida Kahlo’s original pieces will be accepted. We are looking for original pieces that incorporate Frida’s legacy and or inspiration. All mediums are welcome, work must be reviewed and accepted by the curator.
